What we collect. Which is almost nothing.
This site is a nonprofit legal library. There is no reason for us to track you and we do not.
What we collect
Two things, only when you actively do something:
- Form submissions. If you use the Ask a Question form, the topic, state, question, and any email address you choose to give us are sent to FormSubmit, a third-party service that routes them to contact@goodsamaritanlegalaid.org. FormSubmit's own privacy practices apply to that transit.
- Site preferences. If you toggle dark mode or switch to Real Talk reading mode, your browser stores those choices locally so the site remembers next time. This uses your browser's own storage (localStorage). Nothing is sent to us. You can clear it any time by clearing your browsing data.
What we do not collect
- No analytics. No Google Analytics, no Meta Pixel, no anything that phones home when you visit a page.
- No advertising trackers. No ads are shown on this site.
- No user accounts. You cannot create one, so there is nothing to steal.
- No IP logging by us. Your web host (InterServer) may keep access logs for standard server operation. We do not analyze or monetize them.
- No selling of anything to anyone. There is nothing to sell.
Third parties
We rely on a small number of outside services that have their own privacy practices:
- InterServer hosts the website files. See InterServer's privacy policy.
- FormSubmit handles form email delivery for the Ask feature. See FormSubmit's privacy policy.
- Google Fonts serves the typefaces used on this site. Loading a Google Font can involve Google receiving your IP address. See Google Fonts privacy FAQ.
Cookies
We do not use cookies. The site preference storage described above uses browser localStorage, which is a different mechanism and is not sent to any server.
Data retention
Form submissions arrive in the contact email inbox. They stay there until they are deleted. If you would like your submission removed, email contact@goodsamaritanlegalaid.org and reference enough detail that we can find it.
Your rights
Because we collect almost no personal data, there is very little to exercise rights over. If you have submitted a question and want it deleted, or if you have questions about your data, email contact@goodsamaritanlegalaid.org.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from them. If a form submission comes from a minor and we discover it, we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we ever change how the site collects or uses information, we will update this page and the last-updated date at the top. Substantive changes will be announced on the News page.
