A legal library for people who can't afford a lawyer and don't qualify for free legal aid. A legal library for people stuck between paying a lawyer and getting free help.
We simplify the law for you. We do not tell you what to do. We tell you what the law says. What you do with it is your call.
Who this site is for
Good Samaritan Legal Aid is a Pennsylvania and New Jersey nonprofit that publishes plain-English explanations of state and federal law. We are built for four kinds of people:
- Renters who received a notice they cannot decode
- Immigrants who need to know their rights before a specific situation goes sideways
- People who cannot afford a private attorney but earn too much for free legal aid
- Anyone who thinks the law should be readable without hiring a translator
What we actually do
We publish legal information. We do not represent anyone, take cases, appear in court, or offer opinions on your specific facts. Everything on this site is general educational content about how the law works, written for people who need to understand it.
When you can afford a lawyer, hire one. Really. This is not a substitute. This site is what exists in the space where no lawyer will help you and no free program qualifies you.
The nonprofit
Good Samaritan Legal Aid is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Our EIN is 99-2070416. We are registered in Pennsylvania. Mailing address: 937 Paoli Pike 1013, West Goshen, PA 19380, United States. We do not accept advertising and we do not sell user data. There is nothing to sell. We do not collect it.
How content gets made
Every article and news post follows a process. Legal research on the current authority. A draft written for a general audience, not for other lawyers. Review for accuracy against the statute and case law it describes. Publication with a byline and a last-reviewed date. Updates when the law meaningfully changes.
Where we are certain, we state it plainly. Where the law is unsettled or fact-dependent, we say so. When you should be talking to a lawyer instead of reading a website, we say that too.
What this site is not
- A law firm
- A legal referral service
- An attorney-client relationship (you reading this creates none)
- A substitute for representation when your case is complicated, urgent, or high-stakes
- A place to send confidential information about a specific matter
Who this is for
We're a nonprofit that translates Pennsylvania and New Jersey law into plain English. Built for four kinds of people:
- Renters who got a notice and have no idea what it means
- Immigrants who need to know their rights before something happens, not after
- Anyone stuck between "too broke for a $300/hour lawyer" and "too rich for free legal aid"
- Anyone who thinks the law should be readable without hiring a translator

If you can afford a lawyer, hire one. Seriously. We aren't a substitute. We exist for people who can't do that and don't qualify for free help either.

How the content gets made
Research the actual law. Write a draft for regular people, not other lawyers. Check it against the statute and cases. Publish with a byline and a date. Update when the law actually changes.
Where we're sure, we say it. Where the law is messy or depends on your exact facts, we say that. When you should be calling a lawyer instead of reading a website, we say that too.
